Why choose a bare-root tree?

Why choose a bare-root tree?

No question is a daft question, so I thought for our first post of 2025 it makes sense to go right back to basics!

First and foremost bare-root trees are cheaper than their potted counterparts. The savings are significant and often between 30-50%

Cost is important of course, but of even greater importance is that bare-root trees are better performers. The roots do not have to transition from container soil to local soil and as a result they take off and produce new growth quicker than their potted relations. If handled correctly bare-root are known to be more successful in the longer term.

In fairness there are a couple of points to consider when choosing bare-root. The tree's should be planted quickly and they can only be planted during the 'dormant months'. The term 'dormant months' refers to November - April and effectively means the period when the tree is not in bud/leaf.

To summarise, it might be baltic cold outside, dark and all round January-ish but NOW is the time to start making plans for your garden!! We have trees of every size available and a few months from now you could be popping your deckchair in the shade of one.

We can offer advice, make suggestions, supply tree guards and stakes and even delivery locally or post nationwide. Get in touch!
